The Gold Spade Guinea, also produced by the East India Company for St. Helena, takes its name from the spade-shaped shield on the reverse, a design first used on guineas struck during King George III's reign in 1787. This modern version contains 1/4 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, measures 22mm, and is legal tender of St. Helena with a face value of £25. The high purity qualifies it for IRA inclusion.
