The 1-ounce Gold American Eagle has been the U.S. government's flagship gold bullion coin since 1986. It contains one full troy ounce of gold alloyed with silver and copper to a 22-karat standard (91.67% gold), giving it better scratch resistance than pure-gold coins while maintaining the same gold content.
